Empowering Sustainable Shrimp Hatcheries in Bangladesh

The Shrimp Hatchery Association works to support innovation, standards, and advocacy for the shrimp hatchery industry nationwide.

Introduction

Founded in 2000, the Shrimp Hatchery Association of Bangladesh (SHAB) unites hatchery owners, scientists, and industry partners to power the next wave of Bangladesh’s aquaculture growth. Registered under the Ministry of Commerce and proudly affiliated with FBCCI, we champion quality-driven, sustainable shrimp seed production that meets—and exceeds—global standards. Through strategic advocacy, cutting-edge research, and hands-on training, SHAB equips our members to innovate, scale responsibly, and compete on the world stage—safeguarding ecosystems today while securing prosperity for tomorrow.

Message from the President

Lutfur Rahman Kajal (MP)

President

SHAB is steering Bangladesh’s shrimp sector toward a disciplined dual‑species model. Penaeus monodon stays our premium flagship—backed by stronger broodstock control, biosecurity, and traceability. Penaeus vannamei will be phased in (SPF, zoning, certification) to deliver steady, cost‑competitive volume. Together they diversify risk, stabilise exports, and keep plants utilised year‑round.
